St. Toms
Website
This project was set as part of a final assignment for an e-commerce module I took whilst studying for my Bachelor of Science BSc (Hons) degree in Web Computing. St. Toms is a fictional organisation which hosts an annual winter ball for its volunteers. We where asked to create an online booking system which would enable its volunteers to be able to book tickets for themselves and their guests storing their details, choice of seats, meal options and requirements and process payment from their departments account. The system had to also implement a secure audit trail, tracking each transaction as it occurred in the system.
I approached the design of the system by considering the process in which the user goes through the various stages in their booking. As a result I opted to design the system to handle each step displaying which step the customer was currently on, and which had been completed. This enabled the user to understand which step would come next and not to feel lost. In terms of colour scheme, I didn’t want to use a stereotyped blue theme, typically common amongst health organisations, so I opted to choose colours which were quite natural and neutral and complimented the logo I had designed for the fictional organisation.
Overall I scored 93% on this assignment, one of the highest marks I achieved in my final year of study.
